LEGO Wednesday on Wednesday: Building the UCS Thing
While I don’t typically watch coming-of-age or supernatural TV shows, I binged Wednesday back in 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed it. When the new LEGO Wednesday sets were announced last month, I wanted to build something representing a little bit of the show, so when LEGO offered to send something spooky our way, I didn’t hesitate to volunteer!
You may recall the many horrors of Galidor I’ve explored as well as mangled minifigs, so playing around with the Wednesday sets seemed like a natural fit. I started taking a look at the characters then building the sets.
Building the Wednesday Sets
As soon as they showed up on my doorstep, I realized I would get to build the whole theme! In all my years of building, I’ve only built a single BrickHeadz, so naturally, I started with 40750 Wednesday & Enid. They both look fantastic next to their minidoll counterparts that I swiped from the play set.
I built 76781 Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room next, which includes some pretty cool features! Two small levers on the side of the models reveal two drawers themed for both Wednesday and Enid that include another pair of minidolls wearing their formal attire for the Rave’n Ball (an equivalent to a homecoming dance at Nevermore Academy on the show).

My favorite new element for all of 2024 has got to be the Gargoyles, who are absolutely adorable. I hope they are available in bulk soon!
Last but certainly not least, we’re left with 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure. There are two look options to build—her school uniform or her Rave’n dress, with some new trans-black 1x1 leaves for details—talk about another piece I want in bulk!

The display includes her typewriter, her handy companion Thing, a crystal ball and her pet Nero’s gravestone. Just like the Dorm Room, there are two hidden drawers that have space for the extra pieces, letting you build whichever version you’d prefer to display.
Versions of Wednesday
Our titular character, Wednesday, comes in a bunch of different styles. The new Wicked-themed LEGO sets introduced a new style and scale for LEGO figures with posable arms and a doll-sized head. Minifigs have long captured the hearts of LEGO fans for decades, but these new chibi-esque figures are a welcome addition. I’d love to see some Star Wars characters just like these…
Which one is your favorite?
And I would be remiss not to mention the last character included in the sets, Thing. Wednesday’s loyal yet troublemaking companion throughout the show is the handy Thing, a sentient right hand. Where’s his body? Who was he? Nobody knows, but our fellow nerds at New Elementary know where he fits within the LEGO system.
Is thing an animal? a person? i have no idea where to sort him…
I can’t wait to see what Bionicle builders do with this new Thing.

Thing from Wednesday
I know I promised something spooky, and at BrickNerd we like going beyond the normal review, so I decided to take up a challenge. I’m known for making creations similar to Thing, so I decided to construct a big Thing! Yes, I would be the first person to construct a UCS Thing!
The first step was to look up what pieces come in light nougat. According to BrickLink, there are roughly 2,050 or so different pieces. That seems like a lot, but if you subtract all minifigure/minidoll/animal and decorated pieces, there aren’t a lot of options left. Light nougat has only recently been released from being locked to character’s flesh tones, so it was a challenge to build with what was left.
The clips were actually the most limiting factor as not many elements in the color are available that have some sort of functionality. Luckily the 10280 Flower Bouquet came in handy with some clips, bars and curved elements that helped complete the look.
He’s Almost the same size as my hand, although Not quite as poseable…
While Thing’s hand is a little disjointed in comparison to my hand, especially at the thumb, the size and shaping are pretty decently sized. The hand is surprisingly strong, too, and could even hold up a plinth I made with the gargoyles and buildable Wednesday figure!
All that is left to do is hide the hand in a bucket of candy for unsuspecting trick-or-treaters and delight in their reactions! Maybe next year I’ll motorize it to see if I can have it clamp shut suddenly based on movement to really give them a scare. There is more to come from UCS Thing!
