LEGO Despicable Me 4 75580 Minions and Banana Car [REVIEW]
Minions and bananas go together like peanut butter and jelly, like coffee and doughnuts. So it can be no surprise that the latest wave of sets from the Despicable Me franchise includes this obvious combination. This banana car set comes with four minions and a bunch of accessories, basically a Minions battle pack. LEGO Despicable Me 4 75580 Minions and Banana Car includes 136 pieces and will be available on May 1st for US $24.99 | CAN $32.99 | UK £19.99

Unboxing the parts and instructions
The set comes in a small thumb-punch box with the Despicable Me 4 branding, showcasing an image of the finished model and characters set against a street scene. With a nod to another set in this series, the box art also includes the Gru family mansion in the background. Each of the Minions from the set can be seen wielding various props. There is also a line-up of the 4 included minifigures along the bottom.
Inside the box are 3 numbered bags and a small instruction booklet. There are no stickers in this set.
The build
We start with each of the four Minions and their props. Mega Minion Dave has a barbell with weights. He also holds the detachable engine. Mel comes with an easel with a banana painting, a paintbrush, and a painter’s palette board. AVL Tim comes with various gadgets courtesy of the Anti-Vilian League, including a flying propeller hat. Pit Crew Ron has what appears to be a T-shirt cannon, a banana, and a bottle of milk. We’ll take a more up-close look at the figs later on.
Next, we have a simple base for the banana car, which comes together quickly. The foundation includes a spot for the engine, and a place for one Minion to drive.
A banana car would not be complete without a banana, so we add large yellow cones to the front and back using hinge bricks with a plate on top. It’s not a very complex builds, with the minifigures operating as the main feature of the set.
The Minifigs
The set includes 4 Minion minifigures with printed torsos, mouths, and some with printed hair or stubble. They all have arms that attach to the Technic pin holes in the sides of the torsos. All of the goggle eyes are printed tiles. Mega minion Dave wears an orange hazmat suit, AVL Tim wears a dark blue suit, Pit crew Ron wears team Gru cover-alls, and Mel wears the standard minion blue overalls.
The finished model
There is not much to this set, but the finished car has lots of character, and the many minion accessories are perfect for creating your own story inspired by the films. As
Conclusions and recommendations
As a playset at this price, this set is not that great. To be honest, I think the only reason to get it would be for the Minions. That being said, since these Minions all have different torsos, if you are looking for more conventional Minions for your collection then I would recommend picking up the Minions Party Bus instead, which comes with 3 regular versions. Better yet, why not pick up both?
