3600-piece LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron unveiled [News]
Today in Billund at LEGO headquarters, LEGO and Bugatti have officially announced the brand new LEGO Technic 42083 Bugatti Chiron, the second set in the LEGO Technic Ultimate Series of supercars following last year’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS release. The big reveal today was held at the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark by the CEO of the LEGO Group, Neils B. Christiansen, together with the President of Bugatti, Stephan Winkelmann.
Built at 1:8 scale from 3,599 parts, this will be the third-largest set in the Technic lineup, after the recently revealed 2018 Rough Terrain Crane (40282) and the 2016 release of the Bucket Wheel Excavator. Retailing at USD $249.99 and UK £329.99, the Technic Bugatti Chiron will be released for sales at LEGO Retail Stores worldwide today and to retailers globally on August 1, 2018.
Eagle-eyed readers and car aficionados will notice that the LEGO Bugatti shares a color scheme with 1930s-era Type 57 Bugatti cars. We contacted Bugatti, who confirmed to TBB that the launch vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016 follows those historical color schemes: “We regard blue as our brand colour and work with the different shades used back in those times again today.” The LEGO Technic set in turn matches the colors of that first Chiron from two years ago.
Like the orange Technic Porsche 911 before it, the Technic Bugatti Chiron is a very large car, as demonstrated by these photos showing one of the LEGO designers with his completed model.
LEGO and Bugatti have produced several videos as part of the Technic Bugatti’s launch, including this teaser video showcasing the real-life Chiron.
This next video highlights many of the LEGO car’s working features, including the “flappy paddle” gear shift, suspension, and steering. For a more detailed look at these features, be sure to check back here on TBB in a couple of hours for our complete, hands-on review.
As the video demonstrates, the LEGO set includes a brick-built tool to raise and lower the rear spoiler.
The final video provides insights into LEGO Technic designer Aurelein Rouffiange’s journey as he worked to create this unique LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron set.
Even the box for the LEGO set has had special attention, with interior printing and slots for the unique wheels.
