Welcome to Day 16 of our LEGO Advent Calendar countdown. Each day, we’ll reveal the four mini-builds from the LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, and LEGO City 2019 advent calendars along with commentary from The Brothers Brick team.
If you’re opening one (or more) of these advent calendars along with us, we’ve made sure the pictures and commentary on each day’s models will be behind a jump so we don’t accidentally ruin the surprise. Will we deem Day 16 keen?
For Day 16, we have a chess set from Harry Potter and a Trade Federation MTT from Star Wars.
Dave: This Harry Potter Advent is making all the others look bad this year. That chess set is better than the one that comes in the ginormous 71043 Hogwarts Castle! For Star Wars, we have a MTT (Multi-Troop Transport) from The Phantom Menace. This is an ambitious vehicle to do in microscale because of all the curves, though this version is leaps and bounds better than the one that appeared in 2012’s Star Wars advent. I think the last minifig scale version of the MTT was 2014’s 75058. I wonder how a UCS MTT would fare and how many battle droids it would come with?
Lino: Who will win this classic battle between brains and brawn? Certainly not the audience.
Benjamin: Are the pawns inside the MTT?
Ryan: This might be my favorite day so far.
Continuing with Day 16, we have a mailbox ornament from Friends and an oven from City.
Dave: For Friends… yep, that is a mailbox. Not much more to say other than the attached gold curved plate with a handle seems out of place. I guess that is the only way the designers thought it could be hung as an ornament. (Fun fact: that letter has been around for almost two decades, with one of its first appearances in 2002’s Escape from Privet Drive set acting as Harry Potter’s invitation to Hogwarts. It even looks like his name is written on it, though the print actually originated from the Belville line a few years earlier.)
For City… yep, that is an oven. Not much more to say other than kids will have fun flicking pancakes all over the room. (Fun fact: that round 2×2 tile in medium dark flesh has only appeared in a few sets, the elusive 80102 Dragon Dance and the soon-to-be-retired 70840 Apocalypseburg.)
Benjamin: I think the GNK droid got into the wrong calendar.
Chuck: That’s at least the second Friends build that if given to me blind I’d have guessed it was from the Star Wars calendar. Also I know piece count is typically low on these but that stove would look so much better with a few 1×1 round tiles for dials.
Lino: “Are you sticking your tongue out at me?”
Whenever we can, we’ll mash up all the LEGO advent calendar builds from that specific day and see what kind of hilarity ensues. Please enjoy these hijinks!
Dave: Aww, cute! The battle droid is playing with his little action figures taking on the evil hamster-Gungan and his underwater submarine!
Lino: I heard you should always let a wookiee win, but since you’re no wookiee… in your face!
Benjamin: “Roger roger… so this is what it feels like to be in the command ship… roger roger. This does not compute.”
